A new design system and template library for Unilever's North American Personal Care and Food & Refreshment brands. 

Developed for Unilever's 35 North American Food and Refreshment and Personal Care brands, the Starter Kit (internal project name) allows brands to quickly and cost effectively launch or enhance WCAG AA compliant websites.

MY ROLE

I led the research, design and implementation of Unilever's "Starter Kit" between 2017-2018. Our design team included a Senior UX designer, Digital Strategist, Creative Director, Senior UI designer and Tech director. During my 5 month engagement I also worked closely with the development teams to translate our vision into working files. Deliverables I was responsible for included:  

  • Project scoping

  • Literature review

  • Competitive analysis

  • Analytics audit

  • Product strategy

  • Wireframes

  • Design system

  • Prototypes

  • User testing

  • Functional spec development

  • User guide

 

Challenge

Our challenge was to create a flexible design system that delivered a best-in-class user experience while accommodating the unique identity and functional needs of all participating brands.

The new system needed to allow brands to quickly and cost-effectively create or optimize new or existing WCAG AA compliant websites while also providing flexibility for future development and growth. 

The project goals were: 

  1. Reduce implementation and admin burden.

  2. Support business objectives by providing clear paths to online sales and marketing initiatives.

  3. Design for immediate and future needs and growth.
